Volunteer in Tanzania

Help children in desperate need by volunteering in Tanzania

Agape Volunteers have partnered with KATzVA, a Tanzanian volunteer organisation based in Arusha. Together we’re working to directly fund aid and development work in Tanzania and to offer effective, rewarding volunteer work.

By joining Agape and KATzVA as an international volunteer, you can contribute to established, sustainable projects addressing areas of real need. You will live and work alongside local people, encountering a new culture while creating a long term impact.

About Tanzania

What is it like to volunteer in Tanzania?

Located on Africa's east coast between Kenya and Mozambique, Tanzania is an ethnically diverse country with over 120 different ethnic groups. Formed in 1964 following the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, Tanzania combines these names to symbolise a united republic.

Tanzania is well known for the natural beauty of it's landscape and boasts three of Africa's most famous lakes: Victoria in the north, Tanganyika in the west, and Nyasa in the south. Mount Kilimanjaro, possibly the most famous natural landmark in Africa and the highest point on the continent, is located in the north.

Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in the world, with many of it's people living below the World Bank poverty line. However, unlike many African countries, whose potential wealth contrasts with their actual poverty, Tanzania has few exportable minerals and has had to progress from a primitive agricultural system.

Volunteering in Tanzania

As a result of these financial difficulties, infrastructure in Tanzania – both physical and organisational – can be poor, and institutions such as schools, care homes and hospitals can lack the funding they need to provide adequate resources and staff. This is where you, the volunteer, can come in.

By joining one of our volunteer programmes for Tanzania, you can look forward to:

  • Hostel accomodation at KATzVA's Maisha Cottage in Arusha
  • A mixture of traditional Tanzanian food and western meals
  • Volunteer placements with effective, sustainable projects in the local area
  • One of the best safari locations in the world, with Mt. Kilimanjaro just over the horizon
  • Travel Insurance with Agape Volunteers at no extra cost

What Our Volunteers Say!

The stunning scenery and wildlife in Tanzania, with three world renowned rivers and Mt. Kilimanjaro just some of the main features, makes the country a popular destination with our volunteers:

I had an amazing time thanks to the people I met there - Eunice and her family did a wonderful job of looking after me and the other volunteers - I cannot praise them highly enough!

I worked at a safe house while I was there and have made plans to keep in touch with them, which have already begun.

Thank you to Agape for setting up my voluntary process - It was an unforgettable experience but far too short so I will be back in the future.
