Volunteer in South Africa

Help to protect and support endangered species in South Africa by participating in our wildlife conservation programme

Our volunteer conservation programme in South Africa gives you the opportunity to protect local wildlife - like rhinos, lions and elephants - whilst participating in exciting activities that will allow you to experience the best South Africa has to offer.

The volunteering you'll do is desperately needed. You will feel like you have contributed to the conservation of these amazing animals, and by the end you will have forged memorable bonds with them. We are sure this will be a meaningful experience you will never forget.

About South Africa

What is it like to volunteer in South Africa?

South Africa occupies the southernmost tip of Africa, bordering Namibia on the Atlantic coast and Mozambique along the coastline of the Indian Ocean.

It is one of the most diverse African nations by virtue of the variety of races, nationalities and languages that exist in the country. Well known for its spectacular wildlife, and encompassing a range of national parks, the country is inhabited by a remarkable variety of animals. Sadly, South Africa has been a hot-bed of hunting over the last few centuries and much conservation work, largely through volunteering, is now required to maintain it's valuable diversity.

Our South Africa Volunteer Projects

Our projects are based in the beautiful Marataba section of the Marakele National Park, which is renowned for its natural beauty. After decades of struggle, South Africa has a wonderful spirit of determination to create equality for all its people and to preserve the beauty of its lands, but to make this a reality it needs all the help it can get. This is where you come in.

You can make a big difference and any help you can give is valuable; whether it be helping in the poor communities or giving a wild animal a second chance. The people of South Africa will make you feel so welcome and valued, which always makes for a rewarding experience for our South Africa volunteers.

What Our Volunteers Say!

Volunteering in South Africa is very popular with our volunteers. The scenery and the animals are a big part of that, we're sure! Check out what just a few of our recent volunteers had to say after their trips:

18 May 2017
"Although I don't think it is possible to capture in words my time in South Africa, here is a little something! My 3 weeks in South Africa were full of life changing and one-off life experiences and opportunities. Here's a few of my favourites - elephant monitoring, walking through the bush, teaching children at a local school, enjoying the beauty of Sodwana Bay, hiking around False Bay, standing six metres from a rhino, helping to capture Mountain Reedbuck, touching an elephant's tongue, watching a leopard lie down in front of me, stroking a cheetah, tracking leopard movement around the lodge, doing static counts, watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

I had an amazing 3 weeks in South Africa through a programme that offered me the chance to truly experience life in South Africa. My time in this wonderful country allowed me to develop the knowledge, skills, memories and a 'feeling' that could not have been gained in any other way. For that, I am genuinely thankful to Elton and Melissa for helping me live this experience for the 3 weeks! Thank you so much. And I think it's safe to say, I've caught the 'feeling' and I will be back one day!"
